The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) presented   the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) with GFOA’s  Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2021. This marks the tenth year in a row that the Sumter County Board of Commissioners has received this honor.

This award represents a significant achievement by the Sumter County BOCC. It reflects the commitment of County leadership and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, a government entity must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, which are a policy document, a   financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

To receive the award, budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories as well as in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide a strong example for other governments in North America.

“The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is a testament to the efforts and professional dedication to duty by our highly valued staff,” said Sumter County Board Chairman Craig A. Estep.

GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 20,500 members.
