Media Release-Arrest Made Jontae Haywood's death
On December 16, 2022, Jontae Solomon Haywood was reported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office as a missing juvenile. Later, on the evening of December 16, 2022, Deputies located Jontae Haywood’s body near CR 557 in Bushnell, deceased due to a gunshot wound. During the investigation into the death of Jontae Haywood, Investigators were able to determine the persons responsible for Jontae Haywood’s death were negligently handling a firearm in the presence of Jontae Haywood when the firearm discharged, killing him. The individuals then moved the victim’s body and hid it to prevent discovery. The investigation also revealed an adult was present during the incident and did not make any attempt to intervene to prevent the death of Jontae Haywood.
On Friday, January 20, 2023, Detectives of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office obtained the following arrest warrants:
Tervaris Eugene Jackson Jr of Bushnell, 15 YOA, 08/24/2007, was charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, improper disposal of human remains / biological material, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years of age, and failure to report a death to the Medical Examiner.
Trevon Donte Battle of Leesburg, 16 YOA 01/2/2006, was charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, improper disposal of human remains / biological material, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years of age, and failure to report a death to the Medical Examiner.
Bradford Nethercot of Bushnell, 04/08/1952, was arrested and charged with one count of child neglect resulting in great bodily harm, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, one count of possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both Tervaris Jackson Jr, and Bradford Nethercot were arrested by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and were booked into the Sumter County Detention Center. Trevon Battle was arrested by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Sumter County’s warrant and booked into the Lake County Detention Center.
