On November 11, 2022, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple calls

On November 11, 2022, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple calls for service in reference to burglaries of vehicles. Most of the vehicles had been left unlocked; however, two vehicles were damaged to gain access.

Our investigation revealed Kenneth Andrew Weatherwax, III, a 39 year old male residing with his family members within The Villages, used a golf cart to travel to areas located within 1.25 miles from his residence and unlawfully gained access to several vehicles.

On November 16, 2022, Kenneth Andrew Weatherwax, III was placed under arrest and charged with a total of nine counts of burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, and five counts of theft. Weatherwax is currently being held with a $59,000 bond.

The investigation is still ongoing, additional charges may be forthcoming. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has recovered multiple items that had been discarded during the incident and are attempting to locate the owners of these items.
