Sumter County Animal Services participated in the annual Clear the Shelters event cosponsored by NBC and Univision TV from August 1 to August 31. During the month, Sumter County had 2.5 times the number of adoptions than the prior year’s same month. Animal Services also conducted a special adoption event on August 27, 2022. Twelve total animals left the shelter with six adoptions and six fosters. One major success was the adoption of Noah, who was at the shelter for a total of 532 days.
Although the event in August was a success, the shelter is still over capacity particularly with regard to the dog population. The addition of more volunteers is making a difference and they are eager to see the dogs rescued and adopted. We are optimistic and hope that more people in our community come out to volunteer, foster, and ADOPT!
While Animal Services is open for adoptions every day, they will be taking part of the following special events in the near future:
- September 10: Tractor Supply in Bushnell - Wrap up of Pet Appreciation Week
- September 16-18: Best Friend’s Animal Society National Adoption Weekend
- October 7-9: Mega Adoption Event at the Pasco County Fairgrounds
- Late November-December: Home for the Holiday Adoption Event
