Sumter County issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.
Often the benefits of safety improvements are not realized until sufficient time has passed, allowing crash statistics comparisons to be evaluated.
In August 2017, Sumter County staff recommended the installation of a four-way stop at the intersection of C-462 and CR 229. A review of crash reports determined there were 21 correctable crashes in three years, with 12 correctable crashes occurring within 12 months. The majority of the crashes at this intersection were angle crashes. Of those angle crashes, most of the police reports indicated drivers that were coming from CR 229 believed drivers on C-462 were required to stop. The recommendation to the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) included the installation of two stop signs and associated signage on each approach of C-462.
